For the 3rd collaboration project between Ruthin Craft Centre and CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), I worked with glass artist Verity Pulford to co-lead art workshops at the Royal Alex Hospital to create glass and textile pieces celebrating the 10th anniversary of the re-launch of the Craft Centre.
Inspired by nature, the group learnt of the flowers and plants that are sometimes given as an anniversary gift in place of the traditional anniversary materials. These include Carnation, Lily of the Valley, Sunflower, Hydrangea, Daisy, Calla Lily, Freesia, Lilac, Bird of Paradise and Daffodil. The group began by creating drawings from these 10 anniversary plants, and this mark making became the basis for traditional line and shade glass painting, as well as collaborative screen-printed textiles from both paper and photo-stencil screens.
The work presented here is the culmination of personal experiments, collaborative print-making and drawing, as well as original pieces by both Verity and myself created especially for the project.
Many thanks to Mel Huddleston-Murray and all at CAMHS, Royal Alex Hospital for making this project possible for the 3rd year running.
